Screen Shot: Project MAD FORCE

This page will be devoted to my newest project that I have already started on. Its the Kyosho Mad Force. This truck is AWESOME, After being used to larger trucks this 1/8 scale is still something to be reckoned with!

Showing the First Thing to be Addressed!

The first thing you want to address on this truck is the fact that the factory support arms are weak and will bend from the torque over a period of time causing the driveshafts to "pop" out while running the truck.

Here is a cure for that from NEW ERA models that will act as a "traction bar" that will keep the support arms from  bending in the future. Plus they look cool as well!

Another Weak Link Above

The Mad Force also has a weak link in the drivecups. Pictured here is one that came on the truck and the are shorter then the ones used for the Mad Armor. The Mad Armor has longer cups and thus holds the driveshafts in better then the shipped ones with the Mad Force. Tower Hobbies had the long Drivecups still for sale on their site for 9.99/set. If you don't wan't to be looking for your driveshafts alot.....please do this upgrade as well!

An Upgrade I Did

Here is the front steering tierods. The stock ones are whimpy to say the least but here I have swapped them out for a set of ones from 1 of my Titans. Now you can adjust the toe in/toe out with the turnbuckle, before there were just small rods here with no adjustment on the rod. Plus the larger ball ends here make it less prone to damage.

Overall Chassis View

Overall the chassis is a simple design that works real well. It has 2 sideplates that have "sandwiched" all of your running gear and electronics in between.

Its motor placement being all the way in the back along with the position of the shocks makes this monster a "wheelie" machine. Its nothing to be going along and just ounch it and watch it bring up the front wheels and ride on the rear wheelie bar for as long as you have room!

The rears are what makes this truck look so realistic, the axles are the straight axle configeration which make it have all the charm of a real world monster truck. Its a total different experiance to drive then the larger selling market of "stadium trucks" which all offer independent front suspension.

GS.21 Engine

Least they got one thing right @ Kyosho, the choice of engines. Here is the GS.21. Its a total powerhouse for this setup using the 3 speed tranny. The motor is very reliable, runs great with a little tunning, and idles forever.

I was thinking of putting in a big block but after seeing what the .21 had in it ...I dount if I will be making any plans in the near future for a big block conversion.

Ofna Hub Conversion

Here I have installed a set of Ofna hubs instead of the 19mm. ones it came with it now has the ofna 17mm. I did this to install a set of MSJ aluminum wheels I had here wrapped with Swamp Kongs. The conversion was easy, just filed the back of the ofna hubs a little with a dremel and installed the pin through the axle since the axle dia. is the same as the ofna titan. The whole process took about 1/2 hour to complete

Side view w/Swamp Kongs and MSJ Wheels

Heres a nice view of it sitting on the Swamp Kongs and the MSJ's installed from the side with a Bronco lid that will be replaced with something in the future. I just sit it on here for now, still undecided on the body type/style I will be installing. Also note that the New Era traction bars are now installed!
